Like A Dancer

Each leaf is like a dancer
with her arms open wide,
reaching out, yearning for sky.
Saying ‘You don’t need a heart,
take a piece of mine.’

Sinful Lovers

He spoke short words in small sighs,
and took the tears right out of her eyes.
They didn’t know it then, but they know it now.
Sinful lovers will take their bow.

Mustard Colored Walls

I lost myself in the emptiness of your mustard colored walls
and you sang the song that defined my adolescence.
You should have told me I wasn’t crazy for saying it out loud.
For so long, I thought I was was the only one crying.
This whole time, I was the only one trying.

Feathered Woman

I am the feathered woman
standing idly by as her
children grow old,
and her feet sink deeper
into the soil of a life that
she never learned to call home.

Pyramids

There is something about you
that makes me feel whole.
Its like your hands are
pyramids and when
you embrace me
my triangle
holes are
filled.

I Ran Away

I know I made
a lot of mistakes
but my greatest one was
leaving
when you
asked me to stay.
Togetherness made us afraid
of ever being
alone again.
Riches,
that came in a cloud
of happiness,
made us afraid
of being broke again.
“I ran away.”
..its still so hard to say.

Careful Curses

It doesn’t even matter
that the stars won’t cry for me.
They will smear make up
onto my lifeless reputation
to make it beautiful anyway.
Maybe they will even shine
careful curses into my eulogy.

Foreign Languages

Even our hearts speak foreign languages.
The dialect of your lies used to be
so hard to understand.

These Things

I am not comforted by the fact that
these things happen
to the best of us,
but rather the idea that
these things create
the best of us.
